Looking for a place to hang out and sip your coffee in style? Look no further than Old Town Battle Grounds, where you’ll find yourself surrounded by everything from city leaders to soccer moms to farmers fresh out of the fields.
“A lot of people tell me our place has a Portland feel, in the middle of Battle Ground,” says owner Diane Harris. “But on the flipside we’re still very small town.”
Perhaps the urban/rural vibe comes partly because Harris proudly serves up lattes, cappuccinos, and even old fashioned cups of Joe made from Portland-based Stumptown Coffee, which she refers to as, “The most awesome coffee you can get.”
Harris opened her doors in November of 2005 and the coffee house has been steadily gaining ground ever since. Last September Harris took another leap, expanding the company’s hours and menu from breakfast items to include soups, sandwiches, beer, and wine.
Was it a risky move to expand while the economy was simultaneously contracting? Not for Harris who says her business is solidly up over last year.
“I think part of that is that people want to gather together in times of hardship,” she speculates. “And maybe they aren’t going out to dinner or lunch as much as before, but they can still get together for a cup of coffee.”
Once a private residence, the beautifully cared for 1930’s era home complete with a front room furnished with comfortable couches and chairs around the fireplace feels part small business, part living room.
Equally popular are the home’s two private meeting rooms located upstairs. At just $10 for a two hour time slot, they make the perfect off site getaway, private event space, or even office away from your usual home office, Harris says. Free wi-fi makes the spot a popular destination for the laptop crowd.
When the weather cooperates, outdoor seating on the deck or out front expands the seating options and gives visitors a chance to stop and smell the many vintage roses planted decades ago by the home’s original owners, the Rieck family, who were a prominent part of the founding years in this once small rural community.
Stop and sit or get your Joe to go. Either way, it’s bound to be a unique and memorable old town Battle Ground experience.
Harris is offering a reverse happy hour from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. with half-price on all coffee drinks during the month of June. Daily deals like buy one, get one free drinks or lunch specials can be found at http://twitter.com/OTBGs.

My husband is a huge coffee connoisseur and prides himself on really knowing his stuff on coffee beans (he even roasts his own beans). But OTBG is his favorite, hands down. The staff there is very friendly, and very professional. They take their barista work seriously - you can taste the difference every time.
The owner, Diane, is always there, and always makes you feel like you special. I can't say enough about her and everyone who works there. I just love them!!!

OTBG rocks. Seriously one of the best cups of coffee I've ever had, and is one of my favorite coffee shops around.
